Brian Birkhofer and his #15b team traveled to Illinois and Pennsylvania last week for a pair of Dirt Late Model events. On Wednesday night, June 24, the Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois played host to a $6,000 to win UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals show. Brian, who has won at the St. Louis area venue twice already in 2009, laid down the fastest lap in his group during qualifying and later finished third in his heat race. After starting in the tenth position in the 40-lap main event, the Muscatine, Iowa driver picked off five cars en route to a solid fifth place performance.

Next up for the Birkhofer Racing team was a trip to the Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania on Friday and Saturday, June 26-27 for the annual running of the 'Firecracker 100.' The World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned the mega-event and a $30,000 top prize was up for grabs. Brian, who came into the weekend as the defending race winner, was fifteenth quickest during WOOLMS qualifying prior to grabbing the second transfer spot in his competitive heat race. The driver known as the "Muscatine Madman" started the 100-lap affair from the inside of the fifth row and made his way up to the second position before eventually winding up sixth in the final rundown of the 'Firecracker 100.' The Birkhofer Racing team had a pair of high-profile Dirt Late Model races on their schedule last week in the states of Iowa and Illinois. The Farley Speedway in Farley, Iowa kicked things off last Tuesday night, June 16 with a $10,000 to win unsanctioned event. Brian Birkhofer laid down the fastest lap during qualifying and later won his heat race. After finishing third in the dash, Brian rolled off from the inside of the second row in the A-Main. The Muscatine, Iowa native was running a leisurely pace in the second position early in the race trying to save his equipment. Unfortunately, he encountered brake problems and a flat tire on the same lap and retired in the eighteenth position.

The team had then planned on competing in a $10,000 to win UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals event on Friday evening, June 19 at the Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois, but Mother Nature wiped out the $10,000 to win program. First up was the Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Indiana on Thursday night, June 11.
